Rain, rain go away. Come back Monday.
by Lauren Harrington / April 24, 2010
Despite a 94 percent chance (based on the last 30 years) of dryness, Day Two of the National Collegiate Championships was just shaken and stirred by inclement weather. It certainly wasn't a downpour or storm, but rainy enough to make the balls and courts too wet for play. I tried shaking my fists at the sky, but surprisingly it didn't help.
For now, matches will continue indoors at the Peppergeddings Recreational Center, located at 3205 Oak Street, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. USATH Technical Director Mariusz Wartalowicz already prepared the court this morning. Two matches were interrupted by the weather: Palm Beach vs. OH-IO and Army Gold women vs. Carolina. Palm Beach and OH-IO agreed to call the match with five minutes left, 20-6, Palm Beach. The women will continue at 12:30 p.m. Before the rain hit the fan, the Army Black and Tar Heel women played at 9 this morning. Army was victorious, 15-1.
There's a chance the tournament will return back to the great outdoors later today, but there must be at least an hour without rain hitting the courts for them to dry completely.
Here are the results from the tournament so far:
