The Traveling Handball Roadshow is Up and Rolling!

by Dominique Dumont / July 01, 2009

A few months ago, I received a call from the owner of Up the Creek Xpeditions, a kayak/expedition outfit based in Georgia. Tom Monaghan was thrilled to inform me that his company was chosen to host summer camps in Air Force bases throughout the USA. My job: Help him create a handball component and get him ready with all the resources we have to help his camps be successful!

I'm happy to report that the first camp at the Altus AFB went great! Kids aged 8-12 and youth 12-18 participated, learned the sport, played hard and apparently loved it.

Next stop is Scott AFB in Belleville, Illinois, on June 29th. Later in July, I have asked my colleague Patric Coggin, based in Texas, to join the group at Randoph AFB and conduct a two-hour "train the trainers" session. Tom Monaghan is psyched about having us out there and I'm sure Patric will feel right at home on an Air Force base! Wish I could be there but the "roadshow" only makes it was to the sunshine state in March 2010. I'll be sure to attend then and give them a hand.

So all in all, life is good in the handball world. New players everyday and more kids smiling! Thanks Tom for your work!
