Fly By

by Steve Pastorino / August 28, 2009

We caught up with Southwest Regional Director Pat Coggin in a very fun and unique way on Thursday night.  Major Coggin, as he is known in the Air Force National Guard, is an A-10 Warthog instructor - and this week found him leading drills with wingman Chris Reeder.  The pair buzzed into Salt Lake City during a week of training flights that is also taking them across airspace in Texas, Arkansas (where the squadron is based at Ft. Smith) and Colorado.

Marko Brezic, Dan Bush and I headed out to Salt Lake International to greet the pair of A-10's - along with some family and friends.  The A-10's buzzed across I-15 just as we were reaching the airport, then performed a separation maneuver at just a few hundred feet above ground before coming in for the safe landing.

USATH is proud to employ Major Coggin in partnership with the Air Force.  Coggin, who captained Air Force team handball during his time at the Academy, splits his time between the Guard and us - and we're lucky to have him when we do.

And as you'll see in the attached photo, it was fun to see his fighter jet up close as well.
