Overheard in Chicago
by Steve Pastorino / September 11, 2009
We are wrapping up four days in Chicago for the Olympic Assembly, SportLink, Media Summit and various other meetings. Dieter Esch, Brad Krassner, Lauren Harrington, Matt Van Houten, Mike Cavanaugh and I are just some of the individuals here with connections to handball in America. It has been a whirlwind of meetings and presentations, with every conversation beginning with, "so what do you think Chicago's chances are to land the 2016 Games."
We will know three weeks from today... October 2. Sometime after 10 am mountain time, according to the information I have. You can be sure that teamusa.org and usateamhandball.org will have updates as soon as we have news that day. No doubt Lauren will be sending out the news via Facebook, Twitter and the website. Keep your fingers crossed.
Chicago 2016 Bid Chairman Pat Ryan addressed our group on Tuesday and said his friends in the Olympic movement had given him this advice...
1) Be Humble
2) Assume Nothing
3) Keep working all the way through the finish line
The next three weeks are the sprint at the end of the marathon. Here's hoping the Chicago bid overtakes the competition and the home stretch and delivers our first Summer Games in 20 years.
