August 28, 2010 to August 29, 2010 - Huntington Beach, California, United States
The 2010 Beach Nationals have been canceled due to the inadequate number of registered teams by the deadline. We will refund teams' entrance fees directly to the credit card used at the time of registration. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to see everyone again at other tournaments in the upcoming 2010-11 Season.
The inaugural Beach Handball National Championships will take place Aug. 28-29, 2010, in Huntington Beach, CA, a city in Orange County known for its sand, sun and surfing.
Recognized by the International Handball Federation, beach handball is a popular outdoor variant of the indoor team sport. Using the IHF's official rules of the game, there will be men's and women's divisions in simultaneous competition.
"(The) tournament format will consist of an initial round-robin phase Aug. 28 with teams randomly assigned to groups of three or four teams. Teams qualifying from the round robin will advance to the single knockout phase on Aug. 29," said John Collin, Los Angeles Team Handball goalkeeper and tournament architect. "The draw will take place in Huntington Beach on Aug. 14. Teams are invited to send representatives to participate in the draw if they desire. The results of the draw will be sent out to all teams before Aug. 16."
The LA Team Handball club hosted a beach handball tournament in August 2009; Collin said it was the inspiration for the national championships.
