A continuation of the camps conducted last year in a national effort to rebuild the USA Men's National Team, the 2010 West Region Training Camp aims to build a pipeline of up-and-coming athletes at all levels and qualify a senior men's team for the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico and the 2012 Olympic Games in London by first defeating Canada in qualification matches in December 2010.

Tamer Abouelkhir, a coach and former National level player from Egypt has been brought on board to share his talents and knowledge with the camp's participants

"He will bring a fresh eye to development and  it will be a valuable experience for those attending," says Brian Finley, the West Region Director for USA Team Handball.

The focus of the eight rigorous training sessions, including separate sessions for goalkeepers, will be on:

• improving individual technical and tactical offensive and defensive skills related to your respective position and hone those skills in game-like environment, and
• improving wide range of crucial problem solving & decision making skills under physical and mental stress.

Top performing athletes will be invited back to future potential and/or national team camps. Everyone will be given feedback as to their current advancement level, suggested training regiments and “things to work on” in your personal development as a handball player. The cost of attending the camp is $99 for adults (18+) and $79 for youth players (born on/after 1/1/92). Please visit signmeup.com/71359 to reserve a spot. The deadline to register is Friday, August 20.

This camp takes place at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA. If you are currently a member of the MNT Pool and unable to pay the $99 AND/OR the cost of travel, please apply for a scholarship. Please contact Dan Bush at (801) 463-2000 or e-mail dan@usateamhandball.org for any questions.
