Coach Steffen Rupp drives on Carlos Rosas

Fifteen-year-old Carlos Rosas, who started playing handball when he was seven and living in Tijuana, has made it to the cusp of the USA Youth National Team. He's one of 48 teens gathering this Sunday in Colorado Springs vying for spots on the USA U-17 National Team.

LA Team Handball's Mika Maunula will coach the boys, assisted by 1984 Olympian Greg Morava. Players have gathered from a dozen states to earn a spot on the team, which is headed overseas in September for international competition.

Rosas was featured this week in a piece by the San Diego Union-Tribune's Karen Pearlman. You'll also learn about German coach Steffen Rupp who has fashioned a hard-working, quick-learning squad at the Casa Familiar social service organization on the Mexican-American border. Read more here.
