Athletes named for Men's National Team Selection Camps

USA Team Handball Technical Director Mariusz Wartalowicz named the athletes accepted to the Men's National Team Selection camps to take place in the next three weeks in Atlanta and Chicago.

The players selected represent 14 different clubs from coast to coast, and range from experienced USA National Team veterans to players who first played handball at a USA Team Handball tryout in the 2008-09 season.

Atlanta Team Handball and LA Team Handball Club are represented by the most athletes (7), followed by Army (5), North Carolina (4) and Air Force (3).

Nine players have been excused from the camps due to international play, active military duty or injuries.

The camps will be led by Southwest Regional Coach Boban Zivovic with 1996 Olympian Darrick Heath acting as assistant coach and athletes’ representative; Wartalowicz is to preside over both camps. The trio will act as the selection committee for the 30 available spots in the Men’s National Team pool.

Several more athletes may be added in the coming weeks, including members of the U18 National Team which heads to Dormagen, Germany, on Sept. 3.

In addition to competing for spots in the Men’s National Team Pool, players will be competing for spots on the USA Men’s National Team tour in October. USA Team Handball has accepted an invitation to participate in a tournament in late October in Poznan, Poland - which is scheduled to include the National “B” teams of Poland, Norway, Greece, Turkey and/or Ukraine.
