First athletes of U21 Men's Junior National Team Pool named

USA Team Handball September 14, 2009

USA Team Handball today announced the first eight players of its U21 Men's Junior National Team Pool. The pool will eventually comprise 30 athletes after additional tryouts this season.

“Because the list is short, it’s a great opportunity for those who think they have what it takes,” Mariusz Wartalowicz, USATH Technical Director, said. “Go for it; come to the tryouts and get evaluated. It’s a chance for aspiring athletes to make the national team pools.”

Athletes older than 21 were named to the Men's Senior National Team Pool last week. Individuals named to the U18 and U21 athlete pools will be eligible to “play up” in older age categories, such as on the Men’s Senior National Team in competitions. Athletes will not be allowed, however, to play in lower categories, for example, U21 athletes on the U18 team. Wartalowicz also said there are plans for a U16 athlete pool in the future.

A competition slated for the college-aged athletes on the U21 Junior National Team include the World University Championships, taking place July 2010 in Hungary.
