USA Team Handball today announced that it has accepted an invitation from the Polish Handball Federation to play some of Europe’s top U21 nations at the Polish Olympic Training Center at Szczyrk, Poland.

Norway, whose U19 women’s team recently won the European championships, Denmark and Poland are expected to provide stiff challenge for the American team. The USA has received permission to field a limited number of over-age players for the tournament, similar to the Men’s U23 trip to Germany earlier this year.

Marko Brezic (Salt Lake City, UT) will be the lead coach, assisted by former USA National Team goalkeeper Anca Stevens (Colorado Springs, CO). Dan Bush (Salt Lake City, UT) will serve as the athletic trainer. The team is scheduled to depart the USA on Sat., Nov. 14 and return on Mon., Nov. 23.

Additionally, a provisional roster of 30 potential players has been announced, although the selection and announcement of the final 14-16 players will take place following the Tar Heel Invitational women’s tournament, Oct. 30 – Nov. 1.

USA Team Handball has notified the clubs of seven foreign-based players that they may be called in for national team duty. They include Jennifer Haubrich (TV Grenzach/Germany), Julia Sayer (TSV Hahlen/Germany), Morgan Thorkelsdottir (Valur/Iceland), Sophie Fasold (TV Ismaning/Germany), Lea Hoddersen (TSG 1847 Burgel/Germany), Sharmaine Figueroa (Puerto Rico) and Karoline Borg (Astur/Norway). Additionally, Rachel Francis, Toni Ernst and Holly Mikulas, who are participating in the Handball Semester Abroad program in Iceland are expected to be invited to Poland.
