US readies for match against Polish Nat'l Team
USA Team Handball November 16, 2009
One day after converging in Chorzow, Poland, the USA Junior Women's team practiced twice on Monday ahead of Tuesday's sold-out clash against the Polish National Team. Three players (Morgan Thorkelsdottir, Toni Ernst and Holly Mikulas) arrived from Iceland; three from Germany (Jen Haubrich, Sophie Fasold and Julia Sayer) and one from Norway (Karoline Borg) - joining eight USA-based players for the squad, which will be coached by Marko Brezic and Anca Stephens.
The USA are heavy underdogs against Poland in Tuesday's friendly match, which is slated to air live on Polish television at 6pm (Noon EDT). That didn't deter the team during two spirited practices on Monday. Most notably, Haubrich, Ernst and Mikulas have made great progress this fall, USATH staff said, as they have been immersed in daily handball training internationally for the first time in their careers. Ernst, 17, will share time with Munich-based Sophie Fasold, 15, in goal this week.
Check back Tuesday for lineups, results and game details.
