January 31, 2010

France went on a 7-1 tear in the five minutes surrounding halftime in Vienna on Sunday, erasing a three-goal deficit and carrying the team to win the European Championships.

Like Iceland on Saturday, Croatia had no response for a furious French attack in the waning moments of the first half, and France won never relinquished the lead en route to a 25-21 game. Goalie Thierry Omeyer was named Player of the Game. Nikola Karabatic led the champions with six goals.

In the third place match, Iceland jumped out to an early lead against Poland, led by 8 goals and settled for a 29-26 win. Gudjon Sigurdsson led the vikings with 8 goals.
