"Handballs For Haiti" Drive

USA Team Handball March 09, 2010

USA Team Handball is joining the United States Olympic Committee’s efforts to give support to those in need after the Haitian earthquakes by launching a “Handballs For Haiti” drive.

In the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti two months ago that laid waste to the capital city of Port-Au-Prince and took away sport opportunities from its children and athletes, the USOC, in the spirit of the Olympic Movement, is urging its fellow partners – national governing bodies, athletes and anyone else interested in helping – to restore hope to Haitian children through sports programs and the rebuilding of sports infrastructure.

The Haitian Olympic Committee has requested 200 handballs, and USA Team Handball is setting a goal of exceeding the committe's request through corporate and individual donations. Those interested in contributing to help the Haitian children should mail new or used handballs in good condition directly to the USOC:

USOC Warehouse
c/o Sport for Haiti
2975 New Center Point
Colorado Springs, CO  80922

Handballs must be received by April 12, 2010, at this address to be shipped to Haiti.

The USOC is working in conjunction with the Haitian Olympic Committee, the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO), the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO) and UNICEF to help RESTORE and REBUILD sport in Haiti as well as bring HOPE to the country through the participation of Haitian athletes in the upcoming 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games, 2011 Pan American Games as well as 2012 Olympic Games.

An estimated 100,000 Haitian children who have nothing and nothing to do are living in tent cities right now. The USOC is supporting a partnership between the Haitian Olympic Committee and UNICEF to donate sports equipment for children in tent cities.

Those interested in making monetary donations to the USOC's efforts can contribute online here.
