It is not too often that you see team handball being played on the big screen but that is exactly what we have in The Reader (2008) which stars Kate Winslet of Titantic fame.
Almost amusingly, the lead male character, played by David Kross, claims "I didn't think I was good at anything" before the scene cuts to him dominating a gym-class game of team handball.
The movie takes place in post-WWII Germany as a Nazi women, played by Winslet, defends herself in a war-crimes trial where she comes across her former lover.
Before racing off to movie store to rent The Reader, please realize it is rated R and thus intended only for mature audiences.
Special thanks to Neal Bader, Executive Director of the Menomonee Club, a Chicago non-profit youth organization, for making the find.
Be on the look out for upcoming details regarding USA Team Handball's partnership with the Menomonee Club!
