Competition Committee

USA Team Handball's Competition Committee is an entity assembled to examine formats for regular season competition, regional seasons and tournaments, and post-season championships in youth, open, elite and collegiate divisions. The  group is headed by USATH Technical Director Mariusz Wartalowicz and is substantiated by independent members.

Independent Members
Diva Desai of Carolina Team Handball and Southeast Region
Michael Hinson of LA Team Handball and West Region
Craig Rot of Minnesota Team Handball and Midwest Region
Mark Telthorster of Texas A&M University and Southwest Region
Bryan Cothorn of the DC Diplomats and Northeast Region
Sarah Whitley of Boston Team Handball Club - Athlete Representative

Members of the committee were nominated by the handball community and meet on a monthly basis by conference call to make recommendations for USATH's in-season and post-season structure. Goals of the volunteer-based committee include establishing a credible structure, and broad acceptance, of the season's playing season rules with emphasis on the following:

-   Role and value of sanctioned tournaments, sanctioned head-to-head competition and sanctioned leagues
-   Formation and execution of Southeast and Northeast Team Handball Conferences, plus West Regional League
-   Establishment of competition structures for Midwest and Southwest, where team locations are less dense
-   Quality competition with quality refereeing
-   Selection and announcement of dates, deadlines, formats for College Nationals, Elite Championship and Club Nationals
-   Recommendations to USATH staff for fee structures, performance bond implementation and other competition rules
