Coming off of last year’s historic IHF World Championship campaign, where they became the first United States national team to win two consecutive games at a world championship event, the US Junior Men’s National Team is holding their first training camp in Montpellier, France during the IHF International Week in March.

Under the direction of Head Coach Danilo Rojevic, the camp will run from Monday, March 11 until Saturday, March 16, 2024 and will kick-off a new cycle as the team prepares for the IHF Trophy Tournament later this year.

Twenty (20) athletes will be selected to attend the camp, and interested individuals must apply in order to be considered for selection (see application steps below). Athletes born in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 are eligible, but must be a minimum of 16 years old at the start of the camp. Athletes must possess US citizenship. The selection committee will review applications and select athletes based on USA Team Handball procedures similar to those used in previous selections.

Travel costs to and from Montpellier, France must be covered by each athlete, in addition to a 150 Euro participation fee. Training sessions will take place at FDI Stadium, home of the prestigious Montpellier Handball Club, as well as at Olympie, their auxiliary practice location.

Both previous US National Team members, as well as new players looking to join the athlete pool must apply to be considered for selection. Applications will be open until January 20, 2024 and all athletes selected will be notified of the selection by February 1, 2024.

To complete the application, interested individuals must:

“This training camp will play a vital role in helping us establish the foundation of a successful Junior National Team campaign,” Rojevic said. “We want to start identifying the core group of athletes, who will compose the team at the next IHF Trophy tournament while continuously scouting for new talents.”

“Montpellier is an ideal environment to expose prospective athletes to the world of professional handball. Their academy is one of the greatest in Europe, a model for youth development. We want players to see and feel it first hand,” he added.
