Inaugural World Championship Roster Selected for Wheelchair National Team

USA Team Handball is excited to announce the roster for the upcoming 3rd IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship, set to be held in Cairo, Egypt from September 16th to 21st. Ten athletes were selected to represent the United States at the event.


The Four-a-Side tournament will see eight teams from around the world - two teams from Europe, Asia and South and Central America, plus one each from Africa and the North America and Caribbean - vying for the title.

Luke Robinson (Seattle, WA)

Sydney Schmidt (Milwaukee, WI)

Najee Smothers (Lawrenceville, GA)

Harsh Thakkar (Alexandria, VA)

Jeff Townsend (Anderson, SC)

Chayse Wolf (Blythewood, SC)

Samantha Fraser, Larry Furnace, Emilee Gustafson, and Joon Reid have been named as alternates.


The United States has been slotted into Group A for the tournament, alongside fellow debutants France and Japan, and reigning World Champions Brazil.


"I am proud of the athletes selected for the final roster of the USA Team Handball Wheelchair National Team. Each athlete has demonstrated exemplary skill, dedication, and teamwork throughout the selection process," said Wheelchair National Team Head Coach Ford Dyke.


"Competing at the 3rd IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship is a significant milestone, and I am confident that our delegation will represent Team USA with pride and excellence. Our journey reflects the hard work and perseverance of every athlete, staff member, and supporter, and I readily await our performance on the world stage."
